Tip Tuesday: Close the Lid!!!

Did you know this happened when you flush a toilet???

When you flush, microscopic particles are released into the air. These particles can travel up to six feet and linger for hours, spreading germs and bacteria throughout your bathroom. By keeping your toilet lid down, you can prevent these particles, that cause illness and disease, from spreading and keep your bathroom cleaner and healthier.

Additionally, most people don’t realize the importance of keeping the toilet lid closed when showering, and often leave it open without a second thought. When you shower with the toilet lid open, moisture and steam from the shower can travel directly into the toilet bowl. This can cause the toilet water to evaporate, which can lead to unpleasant odors and an unsanitary bathroom environment. The steam can mix with any bacteria or viruses present in the toilet bowl, creating an even more dangerous environment. It is also important to note, if you have any cleaning products or chemicals stored near the toilet, the steam from the shower can cause these products to become airborne. This can lead to respiratory issues and other health problems, especially for those with allergies or asthma.

There are a multitude of other reasons why it is important to always keep your toilet lid closed. In addition to hygiene, here are some of the most compelling reasons to never leave it open:

  1. Safety – An open toilet can be a hazard, especially for young children and pets. By keeping the lid closed, you can prevent accidental falls and injuries. Many pets are attracted to the water in toilets and can be at risk of drowning or becoming ill from drinking contaminated water. Keeping the lid closed can help prevent these tragic accidents.
  2. Aesthetics – A closed lid creates a more polished and put-together appearance in your bathroom. This is especially important if you frequently entertain guests in your home.
  3. Water Conservation – By keeping the lid down, you reduce the amount of water that is evaporated from the toilet bowl. This can help you save water and reduce your utility bills.
  4. Prevent Clogs – Keeping the lid down can prevent objects from accidentally falling into the toilet bowl and causing a clog. This can save you time and money on plumbing repairs.
  5. Pest Control – An open toilet can attract insects and other pests to your bathroom. By keeping the lid closed, you can prevent these unwanted visitors from entering your living space.
  6. Respect – Closing the lid after use is a sign of respect for others who may use the bathroom after you. It shows that you care about their comfort, safety, and well-being.

Your bathroom is a sanctuary. It is the place where you get ready for the day and wash away the stress of the day. However, it is also a place where germs and bacteria thrive. One of the most important things you can do to maintain good bathroom hygiene is to always keep your toilet lid down. It may seem like a small action, but it can have a big impact on your bathroom’s hygiene and plumbing health.

So, take care of your bathroom and it will take care of you.
